CARCIS – Level IV autonomous connected vehicle

In early 2018, the Andalucía Smart City cluster began bringing together companies from Andalusia's technology sector to form a consortium, following instructions from the Andalusian company PREMO, for a highly ambitious project: a low-cost Level IV autonomous driving kit.

After considerable effort and negotiations, the consortium that would carry out these activities was formed in late 2018:

  • Grupo PREMO
  • ACTISA
  • SOFTCRITS
  • UNIVERSIDAD DE MÁLAGA
  • IERTEC SMART TECHNOLOGIES

The project involves combining different technologies, some existing and others under development, such as:

  • Computer vision system
  • Millimetre-wave radar
  • GPS
  • V2X communications
  • 5G
  • GPOF, low-cost plastic optical fibre.

Working with UMA, IERTEC will design and develop the electronics for the 77 and 81 GHz millimetre-wave transceiver, along with the signal processing that will allow the central system to locate different obstacles.

IERTEC will also design and manufacture the vehicle's internal communications system based on GPOF, or low-cost plastic optical fibre, a technology pioneered by the Spanish company KDPOF.

Through the INTERCONECTA programme, CDTI has provided 1.7 million in funding for this project:

Car Assisted with Radar, Cameras and Intelligent Sensors
Project code: ITC-20181093
Budget: €1,647,897.00
CDTI and ERDF co-funding: €789,489.60

We are part of the change.
