UWB + Bluetooth + NFC device for GRUPO PREMO's RISCOM project

IERTEC has developed a system that simulates a smart key for locating and controlling access to a vehicle for GRUPO PREMO.

IERTEC has developed a circuit combining Ultra Wideband (UWB), Bluetooth 5 and NFC technology, commissioned by GRUPO PREMO, a participant in the RISCOM project.

The system locates the vehicle without GPS, instead using UWB to determine its position to an accuracy of 10 cm. The vehicle also knows the user's distance and angle of approach, enabling it to decide whether or not to unlock automatically.

UWB (Ultra Wideband) is a short-range wireless communication technology that transmits data using very low-energy signals across an extremely broad frequency spectrum. Unlike Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, UWB can measure the distance between devices very accurately, with a margin of error of just a few centimetres. This makes it ideal for applications where precise location matters.

In the automotive world, UWB is increasingly being used to improve convenience and security. One of its best-known applications is unlocking a car without taking the key out of a pocket or bag. Thanks to UWB's precision, the vehicle can determine exactly whether the key is outside or inside the car, preventing potential thefts that can occur with less accurate systems.

UWB is also beginning to be used for functions such as automated parking, occupant detection and personalised access control. For example, the car can recognise the approaching driver and automatically adjust the seats, temperature or entertainment system to their preferences. All of this happens without pressing buttons, simply by detecting the user's precise presence through UWB.
